When added to a noun or adjective, the suffix can give it two different significances:
1. an area or activity that belongs to or is controled by a particular person or group;
2. the characteristics that belong or refer to a particular state, meaning status, condition, or the state of being...
Examples:
Kingdom: the domain of a king; an area or property controlled by a king
Freedom: the state of being free; implications within the domain of what is "being free"
Boredom: the state of being bored; feelings within the domain of what is "being bored"
Wisdom: the state of being wise; the characteristics of someone who is wise
Martyrdom: being in the condition of a martyr; the kind of death, pain, torture, etc, that belong to the domain of what is "being a martyr"
